Ranthambore National Park – Tiger

Ranthambore National Park is located in the eastern part of the state of Rajasthan, in the northern part of India. This park was once a hunting ground for the Maharajas of Jaipur, but has been transformed into a paradise for wildlife lovers. Of all the fauna and flora in Ranthambore Park, what attracts tourists the most is the chance to see tigers and leopards in the wild. Ranthambore Park covers an area of ​​392 km2, is surrounded by two rivers, the Chambal and the Banas, and includes 6 artificial lakes. The park is home to 300 types of trees, 50 aquatic plants, 272 species of birds, 12 different reptiles and 30 mammals. In addition to tigers and leopards, wild boars, crocodiles, monkeys, gazelles and monitor lizards can be seen. Ranthambore National Park (closed from 1 July to 30 September), one of the best examples of Project Tiger in Rajasthan, was acquired in 1980 by Project Tiger, a mission to protect tigers. The forests around Ranthambore Fort were the hunting grounds of the Maharajas of Jaipur. The desire to conserve tigers in India led to the park being protected.


Bandhavgarh National Park – Tigers

 


Bandhavgarh National Park, one of the most popular national parks in India is located in the Vindhya Hills of Umaria district of Madhya Pradesh. Declared as a national park in 1968, Bandhavgarh National Park covers an area of ​​105 km². The name Bandhavgarh has been derived from the most prominent hillock in the Umaria area. The area of ​​Bandhavgarh is flourished with great biodiversity, the place which is also being famous for grabbing highest density of tiger population in India. Similarly, the park also sees the largest breeding population of leopards and various species of deer. Over the years, the park has shown a large number of increases in the count of the tiger species and this is the reason why tiger sighting is so famous for attracting large number of tourists in its vicinity. The park is divided into three main zones named as Tala, Magdi and Bamera. Bandhavgarh National Park consists of mixed vegetations ranging from high altitude grasslands to dense forest and is also the perfect habitat for variety of animals and birds.


Gir – Leon National Park

This national park in India covers an area of ​​1150 sq km with 300 sq km forming the central core of the national park. GIR is located amongst the low, undulating and irrigated hills in the Junagadh district of Gujarat. Spread over 3386 sq km, GIR National Park is a mixed forest with Teak, Jungle Flame, some Acacia and Ficus trees. Apart from the largest population, the second most frequently seen predator in GIR is Leopard. In fact, of any park in India, GIR National Park is also home to one of the largest populations of Leopards. It is one of the most important protected areas in Asia as it is the only place in the world where wild specimens of the Asiatic Lion (Panthera leo persica) survive.


Kaziranga National Park – World Heritage Site – Rhinoceroses.

Kaziranga National Park is located in the Golaghat and Nagaon districts of the Indian state of Assam and is a World Heritage Site. The park is home to two-thirds of the world's great one-horned rhinos. Kaziranga has a high density of tigers compared to other protected areas in the world, and was declared a Tiger Reserve in 2006. It is also a breeding ground for elephants and water buffalo. The park has extensive vegetation, swampy areas, a vast tropical rainforest, four intersecting rivers including the Brahmaputra, and the park also includes numerous streams. Kaziranga has been the subject of several books, songs, and documentaries. The park celebrated its centenary in 2005 after its establishment as a forest reserve in 1905.


Sundarban National Park – World Heritage Site

Sundarban National Park is located on the world's largest delta formed by the confluence of the Ganges, Brahmaputra and Meghana rivers. The Sundarbans Wildlife Sanctuary is the world's largest estuarine sanctuary. The Sundarbans is not only a National Park but also a Tiger Reserve, a World Heritage Site and a Biosphere Reserve. The name Sundarban has been derived from the Sundari trees which are found in abundance in the Sundarbans National Park. Sundarbans is home to the Royal Bengal Tiger along with a significant population of spotted deer, wild boar, monkeys, herons and eagles. The Sundarbans is also known for sea turtles. Islands like Goasaba, Sandeshkali and Basanti forms the northern border of the Sundarbans where the Bay of Bengal lies to the south, the Matla and Bidya rivers form the eastern part of the border and to the west side the Sunderbans National Park is the international border of Bangladesh. The Sundarbans National Park is home to a large number of Bengal tigers, and also abounds in turtles, saltwater crocodiles, freshwater dolphins, spotted deer, catfish, wild boars, lizards, otters, macaques, snakes, lobsters, numerous varieties of fishes, shrimps, crabs, herons, woodpeckers, storks, Brahminy ducks, ibis, argillaces, waterfowl etc. Sajnakhali Sanctuary, known for its rich bird population, is considered a part of the Sunderbans National Park.


Corbett National Park – Jim Corbett National Park.

Protected by a harmonious environment, Jim Corbett National Park is situated in the foothills of Kumaon, a very wide valley where the strong currents of the Ramganga River roam. Filled with a wide variety of flora and fauna, it is famous for the wild population of tigers, leopards and elephants. Corbett National Park was established in 1936, under the name Hailey National Park. The first National Park and the first sanctuary to be adopted by Project Tiger, Corbett has a wide variety of vegetation, making it an ideal place for the tiger and its prey. Jim Corbett National Park is the most populated in India with good reason, with one tiger per 5 acres. Dense ravines and jungles form the perfect habitat for tigers. Herds of deer, particularly the sambar (the Indian variety of deer) and a sufficient amount of food. Although the tiger is a solitary animal, it is quite easy to predict its movements. The smell of freshly trodden vegetation and the sound of crunching leaves are warning signals. It is a wonderful and scary experience to see elephants in the forest. Corbett Park is the best place in North India to see them up close. Around 300 to 350 Asian elephants roam the park in herds on the banks of the Ramganga River or feeding in the grasslands. A bird watcher's paradise: This park has a rich diversity of life, it is home to over 600 species of birds, almost half of the total number of species found in India. You can see owls, parrots, orioles, bee-eaters, pigeons, flycatchers, warblers, robins, kingfishers, and many more. It is also one of the best places in the world to spot birds of prey.


KANHA National Park – Tigers

Kanha National Park was established in 1955. It is located in the state of Madhya Pradesh and covers an area of ​​almost 2000 km2. It is home to 22 species of mammals, including the tiger, leopard, Indian wild dog, hyena, Indian hare, palm squirrel, common langur, wild boar, chital, sambar, nilgai, gaur and the endemic barasingha (Duvacel's deer) among others. It is also estimated that 175 species of birds inhabit the park, which gives it considerable ornithological importance. These include the stork, heron, peacock, partridge, quail, pigeon, golden cockerel, cuckoo, roller, bee-eater, drongo, oriole, woodpeckers, owls, etc. Like other parks, it is closed from July to November due to the monsoons. The most pleasant temperatures for visiting are between November and January, although the scarcity of water between April and June means that it is easier to see the animals when they come to drink from the few wells that exist at that time.


KEOLADEO GHANA O BHARATPUR BIRD SANTUARY

Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary in Bharatpur, situated about 175 kms south of Delhi, also known as Keoladeo Ghana Bird Sanctuary derives its name from the god Keoladeo, a part of Lord Shiva, who is worshipped in a temple in the precincts of the sanctuary. This Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary of Rajasthan, spread over 29 sq kms, is home to over 380 species of birds. Despite an artificial situation created by the Maharaja of Bharatpur in 1890, this land of marshes and grasslands supports a rich variety of birds in the Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary. Since it is located between Agra and Jaipur, about 60 kms from Agra, most tourists visiting the city of Taj Mahal and Jaipur include Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary in their itinerary. This lake, a hunting preserve of the Bharatpur royalty, was declared a national park in 1982 and was classified as a World Heritage Site in 1985. BANDIPUR NATIONAL PARK – Elephants of India

Bandipur National Park is located in the state of Karnataka in South India. The park is located on the Mysore-Ooty highway in the Chamarajanagar district of Karnataka. Bandipur National Park was declared a tiger reserve in 1973 and was one of the 15 tiger reserves in the country. The park is an extension of the Venugopal Wildlife Park, which was established by the Maharajas of Mysore in 1931. The park has well-designed roads that make it convenient to travel within the park. It is a wonderful experience to watch the grazing animals or just sunbathing. You can go on a jeep safari or elephant safari. It is a good place to see Indian elephants among various other birds and animals. Safaris in the park are conducted between 06:00 – 09:00 in the morning and 16:00 – 18:30 in the evening. The park remains open throughout the year, however the best time to visit Bandipur National Park is from March to July and from September to November.


CHITWAN National Park – Rhinoceros

Chitwan National Park, one of the most famous parks in Asia, is easily accessible from Kathmandu, about 170 kms away, situated in the subtropical Terai belt of the southern central lands of Nepal. It covers an area of ​​932 sq. Km. The Park covers a pristine area with a unique ecosystem of significant value to the world. It includes the Churiya Hills, the ox-bow lakes and the Narayani River. It is especially known for the endangered one-horned rhinoceros. There are over 43 species of mammals in the Park, and it includes rhinoceros, tiger and gharial crocodile along with many other common species such as gaur, wild elephant, four-horned antelope, striped hyena, pangolin, Gangetic dolphin, lizard and python. Other animals found in the park include sambar, chital, hog deer, barking deer, sloth bear, palm civet, langur and rhesus monkeys.
