India and Bhutan
DAY 01 – AMERICA/EUROPE - CALCUTTA
Upon arrival at Kolkata airport, meet and greet by our representative and transfer to the hotel. Overnight stay.
Kolkata (formerly Calcutta) is the capital of West Bengal, a state in eastern India. Located on the eastern bank of the Hooghly River, the city is approximately 80 kilometres west of the border with Bangladesh. Kolkata is known as the “cultural capital of India” for the city’s historical and architectural significance.
Founded as a trading post of the East India Company, it was the capital of India under the British Raj from 1773 to 1911. Today it is known for its grand colonial architecture, art galleries and cultural festivals. It is also home to the Mother House, headquarters of the Missionaries of Charity, founded by Mother Teresa, whose grave is located on the site.
DAY 02 – KOLKATA
Breakfast. In the morning, we will take a panoramic tour of the city, with brief stops at the Jain Temple and the Victoria Memorial, a white marble building. We will also pass by the Howrah Bridge, Dalhousie Square, Fort Williams and the street of the former Supreme Court. Next, we will visit the house of Mother Teresa of India. You can visit the colorful spice market. Overnight stay.
DAY 03 - KOLKATA/DARJEELING
Half board. Departure by flight to Bagdogra and continue by road through spectacular scenery to Darjeeling (68 km/approx. 3 hrs), situated at an altitude of 2,123 m. Darjeeling is famous mainly for its tea plantations. Visit to a plantation on the way. Dinner at the hotel.
DAY 04 - DARJEELING
Full board. Early in the morning we will go to Tiger Hill, from where on clear days you can see the Kanchenjunga. Breakfast. We will continue visiting the Ghoom Monastery, “Yiga Choli Gompa”. We will continue with a visit to the zoo and the Mountaineering Institute, where you can see a statue of Tenzing Samadhi, the Nepalese mountaineer who, together with Edmund Hillary, crowned Everest and who lived almost all his life in Darjeeling. Free time to walk around the city. Return to the hotel. Lunch and dinner.
DAY 05 - DARJEELING /GANGTOK (98 KM. APPROX. 5 HRS.)
Full board. Departure by road to Gangtok, capital of Sikkim. A very picturesque city, perched on a mountain with a single shopping street, the Mahatma Gandhi Marg. Lunch and dinner.
DAY 06 - GANGTOK/RUMTEK/GANGTOK
Full board. Departure to Rumtek where we will see its monastery which houses collections of icons and manuscripts. Return to the hotel for lunch. In the afternoon visit to Gangtok, the former administrative base of the kingdom of Sikkim, including the Enchey Monastery, known as the “Palace of Solitude”. The Institute of Tibetology, a museum that exhibits Buddhist scriptures. We will finish with a stroll through the market. Dinner.
DAY 07 - GANGTOK/KALIMPONG (80 KM. APPROX. 3 HOURS)
Full board. Departure by road to Kalimpong, a relaxing town with a unique charm. Free time to stroll around this small town. Lunch and dinner.
DAY 08 - KALIMPONG – SILIGURI (70 KM APPROX. 3 HRS)
Full board. In the morning, we will visit the city where we will see the Durpin Dara, the Tharpa Choling Monastery, the Dog Palri Fobrang Dzong, and we will end with a visit to a centre where orchids are grown. Lunch. Departure by road to Siliguri. Dinner.
DAY 09 - SILIGURI – BAGDOGRA – PARO (BHUTAN)
Full board. Departure to Bagdogra airport for flight to Paro. Visit to the Dzong that dominates the city on the banks of the river. Visit to Kyichu Lhakhang, the oldest and most sacred monastery in Bhutan.
DAY 10 – PARO/THIMPU (BHUTAN) (60 KM APPROX. 2 HRS)
Full board. Departure to Thimpu, en route visit to the Taktsang Monastery, located at an altitude of 3,200 metres and also known as the “Tiger’s Nest”. Continue to Thimpu, before arriving, visit the Simthokha Dzong. Arrival in Thimpu, the capital of Bhutan, located at an altitude of over 2,500 metres.
DAY 11- THIMPU (BHUTAN)
Full board. Visit of the capital, including the Chorten Memorial, Textile Museum and the Cultural Heritage Museum. We will finish with a visit to the Tashi Choe Dzong, a symbol of the capital that currently houses the offices of the king.
DAY 12 – THIMPU / PUNAKHA (BHUTAN) (80 KM APPROX. 3 HRS)
Full board. Departure by road to Punakha, crossing the Dochu La Pass (at 3,050 m.). Arrival in Punakha (at 800 m.). We visit Punakha Dzong and then the Temple of Fertility, Dzong considered to be the third oldest in the country.
DAY 13 – PUNAKHA / PARO (BHUTAN) (135 KM APPROX. 5 HRS)
Full board. Visit to Wangdi Phodrang Dzong (23Kms/approx 45 min.). Then departure to Paro. Arrival and visit to the National Museum.
DAY 14 – STRIKE - DELHI/KATHMANDU/BANKOK/SINGAPORE
Breakfast. Transfer to the international airport to take the flight to Delhi, Kathmandu, Bangkok or Singapore. END OF OUR SERVICE
