Bhutan

It is a deeply spiritual country, mainly of Mahayana Buddhism, where we will see them with their prayer mills anywhere. We will find many Buddhist temples and monasteries throughout the country, as well as monks in every corner. Viajes Diva India recommends the best time to visit Bhutan is during the spring months from March to May, when the valleys are filled with flowers but it is a  year-round destination.

GEOGRAPHY:

Bhutan is a landlocked country, about 300 kilometers long and 150 kilometers wide, with a total size of 38,394 square kilometers. It is situated along the southern slopes of the Himalayas. It is bounded by Tibet in the north, Sikkim and Darjeeling, districts of West Bengal in the west, to the south by Assam and West Bengal and to the east by the Indian state of Arunachal Pradesh.

FLORA AND FAUNA:

Bhutan has rich biological diversity. Very few countries in the world have the biological diversity of Bhutan and even fewer have taken such strong measures to conserve their biodiversity. Bhutan, for example, has its own Biodiversity action plan. The country has among the top ten percent of species density (species richness per unit area) in the world, and has the highest proportion of land dedicated to protected areas.

Around 26.23% of the country's surface is protected by National Parks. In addition, 9% has been declared a biological corridor connecting protected areas, and there are a number of conservation areas intended to protect important sites outside the formal protected area system. As a result, more than 35% of the country's land area is under the protection of some form of conservation management. This system serves as a unique system in the world for in situ conservation of biodiversity. In terms of diversity at the species level, inventories have indicated that there are more than 5,500 species of vascular plants, more than 770 species of avifauna and more than 165 species of mammals, with many species endemic to Bhutan.

CULTURE:

Bhutan cultural tours can offer visitors a deep insight into a unique Himalayan culture, where you can find a balance between the ancient world and the global village. The Bhutanese are a friendly, warm people and confident in their rural roots, which are slowly giving way to rapid urbanization. The traditional culture of Bhutan, such as cuisine, dress, traditional textiles, arts and crafts are still very much a way of daily life. The Architecture of Bhutan is the best example of an ancient architecture blending from the ancient and powerful forts to the humble country house. In Bhutan, a wide variety of cultural programs have been created for travelers that allow you to explore and understand the culture of Bhutan.

Although the Himalayas have always been an attraction for the Western world, the phenomenon here is recent. Bhutan is one of the most exclusive and rare destinations for any tourist. The unique culture, architecture, high snow-capped peaks, fortress dzongs, Lamaist Buddhist traditions and its friendly people leave a lasting impression on the visitor.

RELIGION:

Bhutan is the only country in the world that has adopted Mahayana tantric Buddhism as the official religion. The Buddhist faith has played and continues to play a fundamental role in the culture, ethics and sociology of development of the country and its people. The monks are highly respected and play an active role in community life. Buddhism is practiced throughout the country. In the north of Bhutan they are all Buddhists, in the south it is already mixed with Hindus. Yeshi Gonpo or the protector Mahakahala is the main deity of Bhutan, she often appears in the form of a crow.
